TECH CRUNCH - Yubo, a social live-streaming app popular with a Gen Z audience, is expanding its audio moderation technology to the U.K., Australia, and Canada. The Paris-based company launched the technology in the U.S. earlier this year in partnership with Hive. The audio moderation technology works by recording and automatically transcribing 10-second snippets of audio in live streams of 10 or more people. The text is then automatically scanned using AI to detect inappropriate content, such as nudity or drug use.

TECH CRUNCH - Yubo, a social livestreaming app popular with Gen Zs, is adopting a new age verification technique that uses live image capture technology to identify minors using its app, in order to keep them separated from adult users. Founded in 2015, Yubo users hang out in livestreaming rooms where they can socialize, play games and make new friends. The company today has seen 60M sign-ups, which is up from the 40M it reported in 2020 when it closed on its $47.5M Series C funding round; 99% of them are Gen Z users, ages 13 to 25. Yubo is seeing increasing revenue via its à la carte premium features and subscriptions, which grew from €7M in 2019 to now €25M as of last year.

Yubo Launched a Program to Pay Creators
FAST COMPANY - Yubo, the video-based social media platform, has launched the Pixel Reward Program in December, allowing people who create streamers to receive Pixels, which are essentially trading-card-style images available for purchase on the platform from their fans. When they receive the Pixels, they also get 30% of the purchase price in YuBucks, Yubo's internal currency, which can be used to pay for features like boosting a stream's placement in the app.

MADDYNESS - Dec 31 - Little known in France, the French social network Yubo, once nicknamed the "Tinder for teens", already has 40M users, half of which are in the US and only 4% in France. On Yubo, young people aged 16 to 21 can interact by chat or live-streaming. Over the past few months, Yubo has acquired 3.5M new members in the US alone and experienced 1200% growth in Latin America. The app did not rely on an aggressive marketing strategy, it grew organically by word of mouth.

TECH CRUNCH - Nov 18 - French startup Yubo, which focuses on young people under 25, has managed to attract 40M users. A fraction of them hang out every day in live-streaming rooms, meet new people and spend money for more features. Yubo expects to double its revenue this year to $20M. The app has recently closed a Series C funding round of $47.5M (previously raised $19.5M) With this funding round, Yubo will expand its team. There are currently 30 employees in Paris, London and Jacksonville. Yubo will open an office in New York.

According to the Ponemon Institute, trust in Facebook took a 66% plunge in 2018. - WT: Social: founded by Jimmy Wales, co-founder of Wikipedia, news-focused and free from ads that do not rely on algorithms to fill in top stories and clickbait stories
- Sociall: a new platform similar to other networks with standard features. What sets it apart is its privacy policy. The company does not track users' online activity and doesn't sell users' data to third parties.
- Vero: a social network where users are not bothered by ads; free from data mining and algorithms making it a safer app to use.
- Yubo: a social networking app that does not track its users or throw in ads after every ten seconds. The platform is transparent about its data collecting.
- Ello: an ad-free alternative to existing social networks, similar to a Pinterest-like website showcasing art, photography and fashion.
