Yammer Live Events Now Provides Real-time Insights to Organizers
ONMSFT.COM - Mar 26 - Microsoft has announced some new capabilities coming to its enterprise social networking service, Yammer. Indeed, the company has begun rolling out a new feature that enables event organizers and producers to get real-time insights about their live events. With this update, organizers will now be able to view detailed information, such as the total number of participants who attended the event, views, and conversations. These stats will be available directly from the Organizer Insights dashboard, which is updated before, during, and after the event. Event organizers can also expand the Reach and Engagement sections to see more details. The Insights experience is only available for all Yammer Live Events started after January 1, 2021.

Like a closed version of Facebook, Yammer lets co-workers chat, share files, hold surveys, and more. Originally launched in 2008 and purchased by Microsoft in 2012, Yammer is now a part of the Microsoft 365 enterprise suite. Yammer available to business users who are part of a Microsoft 365 Enterprise plan. It's available via a browser or as a stand-alone mobile app and has features common to social networks. Office 365 E1 is available for $8 per user per month. Users can also choose Office 365 E3 ($20 per user per month) or Office 365 E5 ($35 per user per month).

Yammer Nears 8M Users
TECH CRUNCH - June 24 - A year after Microsoft bought Yammer for $1.2 billion, the enterprise social networking tool says that total subscribers are up 55% and are now approaching 8M, with usage activity doubling. Paid networks increased by 200% over last year. Pavan Tapadia, chief product officer for Yammer, doesn’t spell out what that growth translates to in actual figures, but today the company is highlighting one of their new, and more high-profile partners: Klout. This integration will let Yammer users publish Klout scores and expertise on their Yammer profiles.

Yammer Advances With Microsoft Backing
FT - Apr 2 - The acquisition of Yammer was the latest in Microsoft’s decisive play for what is known as the social enterprise software market that is expected to reach $6.4bn in annual sales by 2016, according to Forrester. Microsoft’s strategy appears to be working. Kevin Turner, Microsoft’s CEO, said that the current generation of Office software is the fastest product yet to reach the $1bn sales mark. “A big part of that is the social enterprise tools that go with it,” he says. Microsoft’s $1.2bn acquisition of Yammer followed its acquisition of Skype in 2011. Yammer tripled sales for the full year to January 31 and passed 7M registered users. Paying customers include GlaxoSmithKline, Rio Tinto and Woolworths.

Yammer Results Bright For Microsoft
SF GATE - Feb 25 - About six months ago, Microsoft acquired Yammer for $1.2 billion. Yammer's sales in 2012 tripled, according to David Sacks, Yammer's co-founder and now corporate VP in the Office division at Microsoft. Sacks did not provide an exact revenue figure, but analysts had the company doing ~$20M in 2011. So we're likely talking ~$60M in revenue last year. In Q4 Yammer added 290 paying customers, the sales also quadrupled YOY. After the Microsoft deal closed, Yammer lowered its prices from $15 per person per month to $3 per person per month. "So we are making up for that revenue in volume," Sacks says.

Microsoft Drops Yammer Prices
TECH CRUNCH - Nov 13 - The Yammer service can still be purchased as a standalone product, though it’s clear that Microsoft sees making Yammer part of a unified communication strategy that packages Skype, SkyDrive and Office products into one experience. Yammer has historically offered four different options. Microsoft has reduced them to two: a free version called Yammer Basic and a paid version called Yammer Enterprise. Yammer Enterprise, which will be offered with Office 365 Enterprise, will drop from $15 per person per month to $3 per month. Microsoft bought Yammer less than a year ago. Prior to that, social networking apps like Yammer had boomed in popularity, largely driven by Twitter, Facebook and other apps that use activity streams as the main basis for how people use them.

Yammer's Upgrade With New Inbox
COMPUTER WORLD - Aug 14 - Yammer has upgraded its cloud-based enterprise social networking software with new and improved features. The upgrades include a new content repository, appropriately called Inbox, for the multiple types of activity notifications users receive. The Inbox will contain elements like direct messages, alerts about new replies on threads users are participating in or monitoring, and notifications about new content added to groups or online communities they belong to. Yammer has also revamped the software's home page, displaying prominently notifications that are of particular relevance to users. Recently acquired by Microsoft for $1.2 billion in cash, Yammer is one of many companies offering software that companies can use to create workplace social networks.

PC ADVISOR - July 19 - Microsoft has finalized the $1.2B acquisition of enterprise social networking software Yammer in a cash deal. Microsoft will continue to offer the Yammer software as a stand-alone product, but it will also be integrated into the company's other enterprise collaboration software products such as SharePoint, Office and Lync. According to Forester Research, enterprise social networking software will grow 61% annually through 2016 to a $6.4B market.

THE NATIONAL - July 2 - Microsoft is planning a major assault on the social networking market with a $1.2 billion acquisition of Yammer. There are fears that Microsoft's track record of losing newly acquired key staff in the period after a corporate merger may prove a problem. Some of the Yammer staff may jump ship as soon as they can after the acquisition. "Yammer is fixing a critical technology shortcoming for the firm. However, Microsoft has a poor employee retention history after acquisitions like this," says an analyst Mr Enderle.

BLOOMBERG - June 14 - Microsoft may pay more than $1 billion, and a deal may be reached as soon as tomorrow. A deal with Yammer also would step up competition with Salesforce.com, which gained social-marketing tools through its $745M purchase of Buddy Media earlier this month, and Oracle, which recently bought two companies that analyze data on social-media sites - Vitrue and Collective Intellect. Yammer, started in 2008, is used by ~200K companies, including Ford Motor and eBay.
