NEW YORK POST - Jan 1 - A 12-year-old London girl just won the right in England to anonymously sue TikTok. The platform has been illegally collecting kids' personal data "in order to garner advertising revenue from corporate clients," the would-be plaintiff's lawyers said at a hearing. "The personal data at issue is used in an algorithm which analyses the user's preferences in order to tailor the content presented to them to capture and keep their attention," the unidentified girl's lawyer, Charles Ciumei, said. TikTok is arguing that it already has "robust policies" in place protecting kids and notes that it doesn't allow anyone under age 13 to join - although young children have found ways to circumvent the rules.
